Nuclear submarines are central to national defence and at the heart of our business. The design, manufacture and commissioning of next generation nuclear submarines represents an unparalleled engineering challenge for us – and an exceptional career opportunity for you.
Just consider the facts. When HMS Astute, HMS Ambush and HMS Artful enter service, they will be the largest and most powerful nuclear attack submarines ever built for the Royal Navy.
When fully stored, Astute will displace 7,400 tons of seawater (equivalent to 65 Blue Whales or nearly 1,000 London buses), as she is 97m long and 11.2m wide. Internally, she has 100km of cabling, 23,000 pipes, over a million individual components and more than five million lines of software code, giving her everything she needs to avoid refuelling for more than a quarter of a century. Once deployed, the vessel can circumnavigate the globe underwater, manufacturing her own oxygen from seawater and constantly purifying the onboard atmosphere whilst her Combat System listens across an ocean with the world's most advanced sonar system.
You can be part of making history happen, or you can watch it unfold from the sidelines. The choice is yours.
